Later as more British fleets arrived they colonized the area as a penal settlement. Criminals from other British land holdings would be sent to the Sydney area. Later the British determined that the area was not suitable for this purpose because there was a lack of fresh water and had poor soil conditions so they moved the convict settlement farther up the coast to what was named Sydney Cove after the British Home Secretary, Thomas Townshend, Lord Sydney. It was not until the 19th century that Sydney actually began to flourish as more people flocked to this native land. Since then it has continued to grow. With having such a unique and interesting history it does make it an ideal vacation spot so a Sydney vacation could also be a chance to see pieces of history not found anywhere else.

There are tons of physical activities you and your family can participate in while on your Sydney vacation. One of the biggest attractions is the Great Barrier Reef.
